I hear a lot of people talking about wealth and prosperity, aren't they really the same thing. To me it would seem that prosperity means that you are wealthy. Isn't it silly to use them both in the same sentence?
That's a great question, let me try to clarify the difference between the two. Prosperity refers to a state of being whereas wealth usually refers to posessions. A persons wealth is usually measured by money and the things they own. There are many wealthy people who aren't necessarily prosperous and there are many prosperous people who don't have an abundance of money or posessions. The goal of the Debt to Prosperity Power Plan is to empower a person to have both. By having money and the free time to enjoy it a person can truly be prosperous and wealthy.
Anybody have any thoughts they would like to share?
Prosperity is a way of thinking and living - it's not just about having money or things. Poverty is also a way of thinking and living - it's not just a lack of money. Some people are rich but don't prosper, some people might be broke but not poor. Prosperity is more a spiritual thing or a state of being while wealth is a material thing or a state of owning.
So is it good to be prosperous and rich or prosperous and poor?
Personally I think it's better to be prosperous and wealthy, but I'd rather be proserous than wealthy if I had to choose between the two. While there are things money can't buy, money is still an important tool. Margaret Thatcher once said "No one would remember the Good Samaritan if all he had was good intentions...he had money too!" Money can help a person do a lot of good in the world. Unfortunately many of us have been taught some limiting beliefs about money, such as "money is evil." If that is true, why do churches pass the plate at the end of a service?
Another misconception is that "money can't buy happiness." I would suggest that money has bought far more happiness than poverty has (in the form of Christmas presents, etc.) The problem comes when people start valuing money too high. A person who loves their family and wants to provide for them will certainly need money. The problem would be when they start to value money more than their family. Money is just a thing and if we want to live happy and prosperous lives it is an imoprtant thing, but we should always strive to use things and love people, not love things and use people.
