I just received the mid-month newsletter about this forum and particularly the question about creditor calls. I currently have 6 accounts in the program; 4 of them stopped calling altogether about 2 weeks after I started, however 2 of them are relentless - calling 10-20 times a day. After reading the article I did answer my phone and told them that RAM Financial is handling my accounts and gave them their number. The calls stopped today and come to find out that it was a collection agency - my debt had been transferred! No wonder they kept calling, my negotiator had no idea. Tomorrow I'm told Power of Attorneys will be sent to this collection company.
I know what you mean. It's a very liberating feeling to know you can answer your phone without being afraid it's a bill collector. That was the major reason I joined the program, I was sick and tired of collection calls. No matter how many times i tried to explain my situation they didn't want to hear it. All the collectors wanted was money so I stoppped answering. After I joined and the calls stopped it was like a huge weight had been lifted. I didn't have to be living in fear and I didn't have to worry or feel ashamed at what my kid's were learning when I avoided the calls. I know how much better it feels to not have all the calls, I can't wait until I have all the debts paid off.
Is anyone keeping a log of creditors calling? I was told to but never did and recently started? Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the log sheet is for?

If you are getting calls from creditors you should absolutely keep a log. The FTC says that the collection industry generates more complaints than any other industry in the country. A log will document how many calls you get, when you received them, who you spoke with, and should include what was discussed. This will not only help to protect you from errors, but can also protect you from harassment. and if your log shows violations of the FDCPA it can be used to substatiate any claims.
Did you read the RAM newsletter? Is it true if I don't answer the phone they can make a hundred calls if they want and if I pick up and mention that my accounts are handled by RAM that they can only call once?
I'm in a similar situation as the first post. RAM put an end to 3 of my accounts, but I have one particular creditor who will not stop.
Have you called RAM to let them know? A lot of times a creditor may transfer the account to someone else who is unaware RAM is handling the situation. If you don't contact RAM and let them know, they can't help to stop it.
