How much should we budget for fun?

I know budgeting is helpful but I always feel that I'm making sacrifices.  Life is too short to waste it.  I keep telling my wife that we need to budget money to just have fun with.  She says she agrees with me but we can never agree on how much, or where the money is going to come from.  Anybody got any helpful advice before this turns into a big argument?

What do you guys do for fun?  What do you consider fun?  I know for myself fun could be going to the park which is free.  For big things like anniversary or birthdays I plan months in advance so I don't spend a full check on these things.  For instances, it is easier to save $100 for a month for 3 months rather than spend $300 from one check.  This is less of a scarfice with the same outcome being yielded.

You two should get together write down activities you both like and alternate weeks.  Planning is estential so you don't go overboard with spending.  Impulse spending will always defeat a budget, a full pay check and pay checks to come.

A good piece of advice that I received was to use a 70-20-10 budget.  The way it works is to allocate 70% of your income for living expenses, 20% for comforts and fun, and 10% for savings and investments.  We are not their yet as a family but we are getting close.  Once our debts are paid off we will be in better shape.  Right now it's more like a 80-10-10 budget but we still know that each month we have 10% of our income we can spend on comforts and fun.  It makes a big difference in our attitude and spending.
