Can anyone explain what our government is trying to push through with respect to health care?
That's a great question and I guess the answer to that question depends on your point of view.
On Nov 7th the House passed "The Affordable Health Care for America Act" but it still needs to pass the Senate. The Bill is almost 2,000 pages long which makes it rather difficult for anyone to really know what it says, including politicians.
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office the bill prevents insurance companies from denying coverage to anyone with a pre-existing condition or charging higher premiums based on gender or medical history. It also provides subsidies to those who cannot afford health insurance, and guarantees coverage for 96 percent of Americans.
From what I see the Bill provides little in the way of reforming health care costs and is really just a government run health care experiment that could increase taxes, the deficit and cut Medicare.
